The Hunt Warriors's game last Monday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They walked away with a 61-52 win over Smithfield-Selma. Given Hunt's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 214th, while Smithfield-Selma is ranked 576th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Hunt to victory were Austin Joyner and Jordan Scott. Joyner scored 18 points, while Scott scored 18 points. Ashanta Hampton was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Elijah Bailey and Jacob Stewart certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Bailey scored 20 points, while Stewart scored six points along with seven rebounds and seven blocks. Another player making a difference was Travion McCain, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Hunt has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Smithfield-Selma, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-14.
Hunt is on the road again on Friday and plays Southern Wayne at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. One thing working in Southern Wayne's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six matchups. As for Smithfield-Selma, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Fike at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Smithfield-Selma is coming into the contest with four straight losses at home, meaning Fike will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win.
