Baseball Recap: Estero Has No Trouble Against First Baptist Academy

Estero entered their tilt with First Baptist Academy on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. That ten-run margin sets a new team best for the Wildcats this season.

Derek Van Roekel was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Estero is 4-2 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Van Roekel was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Evan Goeller and Trevor Jones did most of the damage at the plate: Goeller went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Jones went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kohler Scott, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Estero hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matchups.

Estero's record is now 8-9. As for First Baptist Academy, they dropped their record down to 11-7-1 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Estero will host Gulf Coast at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for First Baptist Academy, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Immokalee at 5:00 p.m. The Indians have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.31 runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of.
