The Whitko Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Southwood Knights at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Whitko has three straight victories, Southwood has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Saturday, a win is a win, as they say, even a pretty close 12-8 victory over Prairie Heights. Given Whitko's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while Prairie Heights is ranked 434th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kyler Krull continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 27 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Sam Essegian, who scored 14 points along with seven assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, Southwood was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 56-52 to Lewis Cass. Southwood has struggled against Lewis Cass recently, as their game on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Whitko has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Southwood, they bumped their record down to 3-9 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home.
Whitko might still be hurting after the 62-40 defeat they got from Southwood when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can Whitko avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
