Calvary Academy hasn't had much luck against The Pilgrim Academy recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Calvary Academy Warrior will face off against The Pilgrim Academy Pioneers at 3:30 p.m.
Calvary Academy is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against King's Christian on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Calvary Academy was dealt an 87-47 loss at the hands of King's Christian. The Warrior were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 60-30.
Despite their defeat, Calvary Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kieran Riccobono, who en route to 17 points and five assists, was perhaps the best of all. What's more, Riccobono also posted a 78% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Shawn Fraumeni, who to rack up 12 points.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but The Pilgrim Academy ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 60-57 win over Cape May County Tech. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pioneers have posted since February 9, 2024.
Calvary Academy better keep an eye on Mason Parmer. He was instrumental in The Pilgrim Academy's win, dropping a double-double with 18 points and 13 boards. Parmer is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jared McGonagle, who posted 13 points and five boards.
The Pilgrim Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in ten consecutive games.
The Pilgrim Academy's record is now 9-13. As for Calvary Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.
Calvary Academy was taken down by The Pilgrim Academy 61-24 in their previous matchup back in January. Can Calvary Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
