Sandpoint hasn't had much luck against Lake City recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 2:00 p.m. Sandpoint is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Sandpoint came up short against Coeur d'Alene last Thursday, falling 13-6. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Parker Reichart was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Marshal Peters also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Lake City entered their tilt with Moscow last Thursday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 8-7 W against the Bears.
Kyle Johnson made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Johnson was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Mark Holecek was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Deacon Hunter, who scored a run while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Lake City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Lake City pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Sandpoint, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.
Sandpoint suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Lake City in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
