Miyamura is 10-0 against the Tigers since January of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Miyamura Patriots will look to defend their home court against the Aztec Tigers at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in New Mexico (Miyamura is ranked 68th, while the Tigers are ranked 53rd).
Miyamura scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Shiprock with a sharp 60-36 victory. The win was some much needed relief for Miyamura as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Kaytoinette Ross had a dynamite game for Miyamura, scoring 23 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Ross has scored at least a third of Miyamura's points. Autumn Dennison was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Meanwhile, Aztec's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They were dealt a 61-31 loss at the hands of Gallup. Aztec was down 50-27 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Despite the loss, Aztec had strong showings from Jazzlyn Gomez, who scored 11 points, and Kira Roberts, who scored three points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Roberts hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games.
Miyamura's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-14. As for Aztec, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-10.
Miyamura didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against the Tigers when the teams last played back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 36-31 win. Does Miyamura have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
