The Carson Colts will square off against the Granada Hills Charter Highlanders at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Carson is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They blew past San Pedro 11-1. The victory was nothing new for the Colts as they're now sitting on six straight.
Carson got a great performance from Giselle Pantoja as she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
On the hitting side, Kayleigh Allen was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Letu'U Simi, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Carson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Pedro only posted a batting average of .217.
Meanwhile, Granada Hills Charter's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Venice a 19-0 shutout. The matchup marked the Highlanders' most dominant win of the season.
Addison Moorman tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Elysse Diaz was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Lainey Brown was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs and two RBI.
Granada Hills Charter has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 18 of their last 19 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 27-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Carson, their record now sits at 22-3-1.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Carson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .392. However, it's not like Granada Hills Charter struggles in that department as they've averaged .404. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Carson skirted past Granada Hills Charter 1-0 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Colts repeat their success, or do the Highlanders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
