The Foundation Academy Lions will take on the Windermere Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Foundation Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Foundation Academy took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Horizon, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Foundation Academy sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Horizon on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lions have posted against the Hawks since March 4, 2022.
Riley Winters spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Foundation Academy let Sophia Smith and Elizabeth Ozim run wild. Smith scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Ozim scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Windermere). They never let Celebration get on the board and left with a 20-0 victory two weeks ago. The Wolverines haven't had any issues with the Storm recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Tessa Olofson was a standout: she went a perfect 5-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addison Walker, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
Windermere was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .531. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Foundation Academy is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. Windermere's win bumped their record up to 5-6.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Foundation Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .347. However, it's not like Windermere struggles in that department as they've averaged .339. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Foundation Academy suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Windermere when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will Foundation Academy have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
