Bishop McNamara is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Bishop O'Connell, who was ranked first in their home state at the time (Bishop McNamara was ranked 17th). The Mustangs lost 3-0 to the Knights on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Mustangs have suffered since October 24, 2024.
While Bishop McNamara was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 25-8, 25-23.
The losing side was boosted by Addison Sewell, who had 13 digs and one assist. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Robinson, who had eight digs.
Meanwhile, The Academy of the Holy Cross strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They blew past St. John's 3-0.
The Academy of the Holy Cross never let St. John's on the board, but things got pretty close in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 25-19, 25-23.
Bishop McNamara's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-4. As for The Academy of the Holy Cross, their victory bumped their record up to 13-0.
