The Southwestern Piasa Birds lost against the Carlinville Cavaliers two weeks ago, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Southwestern received a tough blow as they fell 44-29 to the Cavaliers. Southwestern has not had much luck with the Cavaliers recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Southwestern lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Vivian Zurheide, who scored six points along with five rebounds and five blocks. Gracie Darr was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Southwestern's loss dropped their record down to 11-17. As for Carlinville, they have been performing well recently as they've won 17 of their last 20 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 22-6 record this season.
Southwestern will be playing in front of their home fans against the Purple Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Litchfield has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 28. As for Carlinville, they will head out on the road to face off against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Illinois (Staunton is ranked 167th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 172nd).
