Basketball Game Preview: Union Rockets vs. Randolph Southern Rebels

Union is 0-10 against Randolph Southern since November of 2017 but things could change on Thursday. The Union Rockets will be taking part in a tournament against the Randolph Southern Rebels at 7:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Union is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Union City back in December of 2024 (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Union took a blow against Union City, falling 63-33. The Rockets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-13.

Despite the defeat, Union saw an underclassman step up: freshman Lavon Schwartz posted nine points and seven rebounds. Schwartz is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season.

Even though they lost, Union smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Randolph Southern had to suffer through a 72-35 loss at the hands of Eastern Hancock. The Rebels haven't had much luck with the Royals recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Randolph Southern now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Union, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Union was dealt a bruising 77-45 defeat at the hands of Randolph Southern in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Union was down 41-20.
