The Fivay Falcons struggled with offensive rebounds on Thursday (the Gulf Buccaneers had 1400% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Fivay took a 43-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Gulf. Fivay has struggled against Gulf recently, as their contest on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Jordana Montaner Rodgers and Malia Shuler certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Montaner Rodgers scored 12 points along with 6 steals and 4 blocks, while Shuler scored 3 points along with 12 rebounds and 5 blocks. Montaner Rodgers scored a full 34.3% of Fivay's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Gulf got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ariana Rodriguez out in front who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 11 rebounds. Rodriguez hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Brenniyah Hall was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
Fivay's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Gulf, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fivay is on the road again on Friday and play against Classical Prep at 6:00 p.m. on December 8th. As for Gulf, they will take on Tarpon Springs at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
