The Miami Trace Panthers will venture away from home to take on the Unioto Shermans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Miami Trace is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Miami Trace is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Hillsboro on Wednesday. They lost 10-2 to the Indians. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Panthers, who until this match were averaging four runs allowed.
Miami Trace saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jameson Hyer, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Cooper Enochs also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Unioto waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They walked away with a 6-1 win over the Mustangs.
KB Perkins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Keegan Snyder, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Callaway Ratliff was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Unioto pushed their record up to 6-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Miami Trace, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 6-1.
Miami Trace's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Panthers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Unioto, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Miami Trace continue to outrun the ball?
Miami Trace came up short against Unioto in their previous meeting back in May of 2021, falling 6-1. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
