Wakulla is 0-4 against Gadsden County since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. Wakulla scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They walked away with a 48-39 win over St. John Paul II.
Kyendra Thomas was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. Thomas is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Amariyah Donaldson, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Gadsden County's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight loss. They were outmatched by Madison County on the road and fell 64-26. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Gadsden County in their matchups with Madison County: they've now lost nine in a row.
Despite the defeat, Gadsden County saw an underclassman step up: Camyria Clemons scored nine points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Gadsden County struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Madison County posted ten assists.
Wakulla's win bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Gadsden County, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-9.
Thursday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Wakulla have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35.6 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Gadsden County, though, as they've been averaging only 11.8 rebounds per game. Given Wakulla's sizeable advantage in that area, Gadsden County will need to find a way to close that gap.
Wakulla came up short against Gadsden County in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 46-36. Can Wakulla avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
