Basketball Recap: Weston Ranch Drops Season-High Score on Bear Creek

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Weston Ranch). They really took it to the Bear Creek Bruins for the full four quarters, racking up a 79-41 win. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while the Bruins are ranked 446th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Weston Ranch to victory were Darrion Lilly and Jerimyah Owens. Lilly went 11 of 17 on his way to 25 points and seven boards, while Owens went 9 for 11 en route to 19 points in addition to eight rebounds and three blocks. The dominant performance gave Owens a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joziah Bell, who posted ten points and four steals.

Weston Ranch smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Several Bruins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nemo Lucas, who put up 12 points. Eddie Andeola was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Weston Ranch's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-9. As for Bear Creek, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-9.

Weston Ranch wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 60-55 win against Carlsbad on the 20th. As for Bear Creek, they are taking a road trip to challenge Tokay at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Tokay has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
