Baseball Recap: Tawas Area Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Grayling, Tawas Area was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Alcona Tigers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Braves have posted against the Tigers since May 31, 2017.

Preston Muckenthler made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Muckenthler was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He has become a key player for Tawas Area: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Tawas Area let Aidan Smith and Leif Guillotel run wild. Smith went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Guillotel went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Tawas Area is undefeated when Smith posts two or more runs, but 0-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Carson Selman, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

Tawas Area's win bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Alcona, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Coincidentally, Tawas Area and Alcona will both be playing Oscoda the next time they take the field. The Tigers will host the Owls at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Braves will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
