The Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They strolled past Winside with points to spare, taking the game 41-26. That looming 41-26 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Lyons-Decatur Northeast yet this season.
Leading Lyons-Decatur Northeast to victory were Avery Bacon and Sydney Olsen. Bacon scored 14 points along with seven rebounds, while Olsen scored six points along with five rebounds and three steals. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Tristen Parker, who scored six points along with ten rebounds.
Despite the loss, Winside saw an underclassman step up: Hadleigh Schutt dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. Schutt has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast's victory bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Winside, their loss was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-6.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Madison the next time they take the court. Lyons-Decatur Northeast will head out to face Madison at 6:00 p.m. on December 28th, while Winside will head out to face them on January 2, 2024.
