After a string of eight wins, The Desert Mountain Wolves''s good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were outmatched by Higley at home and fell 58-21. Desert Mountain lost against Higley in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 35-33 score last time.
Several Wolves players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bryce Herges, who rushed for 26 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 172 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Dylan Tapley, who picked up 143 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Leading Higley to victory were Daxen Hall and Gunner Fagrell. Hall rushed for 161 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 carries, while Fagrell threw for 246 yards and five touchdowns. Hall is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last eight games he's played. Taveon Sueing was another key contributor, picking up 51 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Desert Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 9-1. As for Higley, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which lines up perfectly with their 8-2 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Desert Mountain will challenge Notre Dame Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Notre Dame Prep is ranked 28th, while Desert Mountain is ranked 13th). As for Higley, they will head out on the road to face off against Williams Field at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Williams Field is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
