ALVIN, Texas - A big 21-point second quarter helped carry the Yellowjackets to a 35-7 victory over
Pasadena (Texas) on Saturday.
Alvin scored on a passing touchdown, a touchdown run by
John McDowell and a
Aaron Jackson touchdown run in the quarter.
After taking the lead on a passing touchdown in the second quarter, AHS led 21-0 at the half.
Both teams scored seven points in the third quarter, so the margin remained at 21 entering the fourth.
The Eagles'
Chris Free played well. The junior ran for one touchdown.
McDowell played well for the Yellowjackets in the victory. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored eight touchdowns on the season.
Pasadena's lone touchdown came on a 7-yard run by Free in the third quarter.
Alvin entered the contest giving up 28.5 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding PHS right around its season average of 7.6 points scored per game.
The Yellowjackets also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 48-28.
In a 5A Region III District 22 game next week Alvin (4-5) takes on Pasadena Memorial, and Pasadena (0-9) will go up against Sam Rayburn also in a 5A Region III District 22 game.
