Modesto Metro recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Modesto, who took down 611th ranked Modesto, 20-17. Alex Labanon ran for 88 yards and caught one passes for 36 yards in the win.
Enochs's Efrem Grimes recorded the longest rushing play in Modesto Metro this season in his game against Beyer last week. Grimes scampered for 83 yards on the play and finished with 233 on the day as his team defeated the Patriots.
Downey's dynamic duo of Aaron Zwahlen and Michael Falepouono proved tough for Johansen to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Zwahlen threw for 294 yards and three touchdowns and Falepouono had 118 yards receiving. Richard Lopez helped Downey's passing attack out by catching five balls for 95 yards.
Andrew Issa made the biggest impact on defense this week as Enochs topped Beyer. The 5-foot-10 junior recorded one fumble.
The Knights' Zwahlen and Lopez have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Zwahlen has thrown for 1642 yards this season, while Lopez, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 23 catches for 507 yards. Labanon from Gregori leads the league in rushing with 555 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Gregori takes on Downey. As it stands, Jason McCoy's team is in fourth, while Jeremy Plaa's team is in first.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Gregori takes on the Knights. Gregori has allowed 160 points this season, while Downey has given up 102. Gregori allowed 17 points last week as it bested the Panthers.
Gregori was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in Modesto Metro. Earlier in the week, Gregori triumphed over Modesto 20-17.
