Baseball Recap: Nelson County Wins Going Away Against Bethlehem

While Nelson County put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Bethlehem. The Cardinals blew past the Eagles/Banshees 14-0. Considering the Cardinals have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

A Balog made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, E Rogers was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kaden Simpson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Nelson County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.

Nelson County is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Bethlehem, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nelson County will welcome Seneca at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in the Cardinals' favor as the squad sits on six straight wins at home while the Red Hawks have been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road. As for Bethlehem, they will host Nicholas County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
