Baseball Recap: Beech Grove's Victory on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Beech Grove extended their winning streak to three on Saturday, bumping their season record up to 4-10 in the process. Everything went their way against Irvington Preparatory Academy as they made off with an 11-1 victory. For the Hornets, this counts as revenge for the 7-3 win Irvington Preparatory Academy walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Griffin Matracia was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Matracia was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Guerin Boshears was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Aiden Brown also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Beech Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

As for Irvington Preparatory Academy, the defeat snapped their winning streak at ten games and leaves them with a 10-3 record. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for they, who until this matchup were averaging 4.08 runs allowed.

On Irvington Preparatory Academy's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cortez Jenkins, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Jenkins is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

Coming up, Beech Grove will take on Covenant Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Irvington Preparatory Academy, they will be playing at home against Christel House at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
