The Weeki Wachee Hornets had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They strolled past Nature Coast Tech with points to spare, taking the game 58-40. Weeki Wachee pushed the score to 49-22 by the end of the third, a deficit Nature Coast Tech cut but never quite recovered from.
Weeki Wachee was led to victory by Paige Atwater and Joelys Rodriguez. Atwater scored 20 points along with three steals, while Rodriguez scored 21 points along with six rebounds and two steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Atwater has scored at least a third of Weeki Wachee's points. Marlee Schumacher was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with nine rebounds and two blocks.
Nature Coast Tech's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Quintara Norwood, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaida Grier, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Weeki Wachee pushed their record up to 16-7 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Nature Coast Tech, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-10.
Weeki Wachee will head out on the road to take on Nature Coast Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Weeki Wachee's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games. As for Nature Coast Tech, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hudson at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Nature Coast Tech focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Thursday.
