The Wenonah Dragons typically have all the answers at home, but on Thursday the Parker Thundering Herd proved too difficult a challenge. Parker had just enough and edged Wenonah out 59-57. The win was familiar territory for Parker who now have three in a row.
Parker got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Janiya Mines out in front who scored 17 points. Another player making a difference was Alteona Plump, who scored 9 points along with 10 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Wenonah still got an impressive performance from Samarian Franklin, who scored 27 points along with 7 rebounds and 7 steals. The game was Franklin's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dahja Tinsley, who scored 10 points.
Parker's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Wenonah, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-3.
Parker will head out on the road to face off against Woodlawn at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wenonah, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Minor at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Alabama (Minor is ranked 44th, while Wenonah is ranked 39th).
