Heritage is 0-5 against Reedy since October of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Heritage Coyotes will head out on the road to face off against the Reedy Lions at 7:00 p.m. Heritage will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 301st, while Reedy is ranked 70th).
After some red-hot offensive attacks in their last four matchups, Heritage finally came back down to earth two weeks ago. They fell just short of Frisco by a score of 10-7. Heritage gained 126 more yards on the day, but it was Frisco that made the best of use of them.
Despite the defeat, Heritage had strong showings from Kentra Britton, who rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown, and Jiyere Cogshell, who rushed for 87 yards.
Meanwhile, Reedy stacked a seventh blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They claimed a resounding 45-3 win over Frisco on the road. The victory was nothing new for Reedy as they're now sitting on six straight.
The team won by holding Frisco to a paltry no rushing yards and no passing yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Reedy's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Kahlil Smith and Luca Akirtava who racked up four sacks between them.
Heritage's loss dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Reedy, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Heritage has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 152.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Reedy struggles in that department as they've been even better at 234.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Heritage and Reedy were almost perfectly matched up in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, but Heritage suffered an agonizing 32-31 loss. Thankfully for Heritage, Dennis Moody (who rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
