The Phillips Wildcats came tearing into Tuesday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 88-51 win over Agricultural Science. That 37 point margin sets a new team best for Phillips this season.
Lawrence Horton was his usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with five assists and five rebounds. He hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. Phoenix Childs was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Phillips pushed their record up to 16-8 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 83.7 points per game. As for Agricultural Science, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-9.
Phillips will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Thunderbirds at 5:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Illinois (Hyde Park is ranked 78th, while the Wildcats are ranked 92nd). Agricultural Science is on the road again on Friday and plays the Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on February 2nd.
