Having just played yesterday, the Durango Trailblazers will jump right back in to play the Silverado Skyhawks at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Durango is ranked 78th, while Silverado is ranked 83rd).
Durango had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They secured a 42-37 W over Western on Wednesday.
Durango can attribute much of their success to Amia McKinney, who scored ten points, and Elizebeth Mahavong, who scored ten points. Those ten points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Rayneria Lockett, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, Silverado ended up a good deal behind Sierra Vista on Wednesday and lost 46-31.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kaitlyn Jack-Keller, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. The contest was her sixth in a row with at least ten points. Timia Thomas was another key contributor, scoring six points along with four steals.
Durango's win bumped their record up to 3-10. As for Silverado, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Durango have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 19.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Silverado, though, as they've been averaging only 34.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Durango couldn't quite finish off Silverado in their previous meeting back in February and fell 45-42. Thankfully for Durango, Ashley Saxton (who scored 24 points along with three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
