Even though the Minerva Lions have not done well against the Steubenville Big Red recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Minerva came out on top in a nail-biter against Steubenville and snuck past 46-44. That's another feather in the cap for Minerva, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Steubenville's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Santino Haney, who scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Tre'von Wiggins, who scored 15 points.
Minerva now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Steubenville, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Minerva will be home for the holidays to greet Salem at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Steubenville, they will stay at home for another game and welcome East Liverpool at 2:30 p.m. on December 16th.
