The Westerly Bulldogs and the South Kingstown Rebels will round out the year against one another at at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Westerly didn't have too much trouble with Stonington as they won 64-49. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.
Westerly's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tyler Braymen led the charge by putting up 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Pennell, who posted 13 points.
Meanwhile, South Kingstown put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Chariho 82-56. The Rebels' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
South Kingstown's win came from a few key players Westerly will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was James Wilson, who had 22 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists. Another player making a difference was Griffin Sward, who put up 20 points and five rebounds.
South Kingstown was working as a unit and finished the game with 26 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
South Kingstown's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Westerly, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Westerly hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 60.5 points per game. However, it's not like South Kingstown struggles in that department as they've been averaging 68 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Westerly skirted past South Kingstown 58-56 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Does Westerly have another victory up their sleeve, or will South Kingstown turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
