In this week's power rankings, we saw one team go soaring up and another team come crashing down, along with everything in between. Among the action were the efforts of Madison Central's junior Jimmy Holiday, an offensive menace who scored five total TDs.
Welcome
Even if it wasn't quite the margin the team was expecting, Gulfport's contest against St. Martin still finished up like the MaxPreps state rankings predicted. Gulfport won a game that couldn't get any closer, slipping by St. Martin 35 - 34. One major factor in the win was the play of senior Tq Newsome, who ran for 130 yards and also punched in two touchdowns. The victory also thrust Gulfport into the power rankings, where the team now holds the 24th spot.
Can't Touch This
Tupelo got a 43 - 31 win over Hernando last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Jaquerrious Williams. Williams rushed for 306 yards and three touchdowns. That performance landed Williams among the top power-ranked players for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of the hottest tickets last week involved the clash between Madison Central (5th in the power rankings) and Clinton (8th). Madison Central strolled past Clinton with points to spare, taking the game 35 - 20. 35 is shaping up to be Madison Central's lucky number as the team posted the same point total in its win over Pearl the game before.
