This season hasn't been kind to the Lordstown Red Devils, who are still winless after their fifth game. They were outmatched by Maplewood at home and fell 57-5. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lordstown in their matchups with Maplewood: they've now lost nine in a row.
Maplewood's win on Thursday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Morgan Himes, who scored 22 points along with six assists and five rebounds. The match was Himes' fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aliah Brumit, who scored 13 points along with seven steals.
Lordstown's loss was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-5. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 11.2 points per game. As for Maplewood, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lordstown will take on Bristol at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Bristol has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Maplewood will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Lakeview at 12:00 p.m. on December 16th. Lakeview will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 680th, while Maplewood is ranked 179th).
