Baseball Game Preview: Taylor Ducks vs. Salado Eagles

Taylor and Salado are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long. The Ducks will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Thursday, Taylor needed a bit of extra time to put away Marble Falls. They skirted past the Mustangs 4-3.

Mario Aguero was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He also allowed no hits, which is notable because Taylor is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 4-15-1 otherwise. Aguero was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs.

Aguero wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Xavier Juarez, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI Juarez has posted since back in February.

Meanwhile, Salado had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 4-1 win over Lampasas on Thursday.

Owen Curtis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

Taylor has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-16-1 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Salado, their victory bumped their record up to 15-8-1.

Taylor came out on top in a nail-biter against Salado in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Do the Ducks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
