The Trinity Shamrocks will take on the Bishop McDevitt Crusaders at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Trinity is coming into the game hot, having won their last nine games.
On Thursday, Trinity got the win against Milton Hershey by a conclusive 15-1. The Shamrocks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Garreth Calder was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Myers, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Trinity was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Bishop McDevitt owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Red Land 2-0. That's two games straight that the Crusaders have won by exactly two runs.
The result came thanks to Tyler Shroy's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks. Bishop McDevitt is 2-1 when Shroy allows one or fewer hits, but 5-10 otherwise.
Bishop McDevitt has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Trinity, they pushed their record up to 15-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Trinity has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Bishop McDevitt struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Trinity was able to grind out a solid victory over Bishop McDevitt when the teams last played back in March, winning 8-5. Will the Shamrocks repeat their success, or do the Crusaders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
