The Marmion Cadets will take on the Fenwick Friars at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Fenwick will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Marmion extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. The Cadets were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over Leo. The result was nothing new for the Cadets, who have now won nine matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Luke Young tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, Kevin Schultz was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since April 1st. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Zebig, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Fenwick never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They put the hurt on De La Salle with a sharp 10-0 win. The Friars have beaten the Meteors the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Meteors has come to flipping the script.
Fenwick also got a great performance from Diego Tafolla as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Tafolla also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Friars are 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-8-1 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Josh Morgan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Fenwick's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-9-1 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Andrew Henderson, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Fenwick always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Marmion's victory bumped their record up to 13-8-1. As for Fenwick, the win got them back to even at 9-9-1.
Marmion might still be hurting after the 10-1 defeat they got from Fenwick in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Cadets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
