Two dominant guards in Aubrey Gilliland and Hayziah Dillingham are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The North Buncombe Black Hawks will head out on the road to square off against the Asheville Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully North Buncombe focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 last Friday.
Last Friday, North Buncombe ended up a good deal behind McDowell and lost 54-40. While losing is never fun, North Buncombe can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while McDowell is ranked 46th).
Despite the defeat, North Buncombe saw an underclassman step up: Gilliland scored 11 points along with six rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kadence Penley, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Asheville had to suffer through a rough 81-36 loss at the hands of McDowell.
North Buncombe has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-6 record this season. As for Asheville, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-9.
North Buncombe came up short against Asheville in their previous matchup back in January, falling 45-38. Can North Buncombe avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
