Basketball Game Preview: Midd-West Mustangs vs. Shamokin Area Indians

Midd-West is 0-9 against Shamokin Area since January of 2015 but things could change on Wednesday. The Midd-West Mustangs will take on the Shamokin Area Indians at 7:15 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Midd-West is headed into Wednesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Saturday. They fell 67-55 to Central Mountain.

Despite their defeat, Midd-West saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. D'Zani Coley, who posted 18 points and six rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The dominant performance also gave Coley a new career-high in assists (four). Chase Shattuck was another key player, putting up ten points.

Even though they lost, Midd-West smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Central Mountain only pulled down five offensive rebounds.

Meanwhile, Shamokin Area waltzed into their matchup on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They enjoyed a cozy 76-61 victory over the Wildcats. Given the Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Wildcats are ranked 212th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Shamokin Area is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.3 points per game. As for Midd-West, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.

Midd-West was taken down by Shamokin Area 81-53 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Midd-West avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
