Basketball Recap: Whittell Comes Up Short on the Road Against Sacramento Country Day

Whittell kicked off their season on the road on Monday and hit a couple of potholes. They had to suffer through a 54-22 loss at the hands of the Sacramento Country Day Cavaliers. The Warriors just can't catch a break and have now endured 19 defeats in a row dating back to last season.

Whittell's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rocky Laremore, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine boards. Laremore has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times he's played. Michael Lezama-Demazo was another key player, putting up seven points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Sacramento Country Day's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ekram Thiarra, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 13 points. What's more, Thiarra also racked up two steals, the most he's had since back in November of 2023. Justin Lawson was another key player, going 5 for 10 on his way to 11 points.

Whittell didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 50-47 victory against Lund on the 5th. As for Sacramento Country Day, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 71-50 win against Pine Hills Adventist on the 3rd.
