The Estero Wildcats will be playing at home against the Ida Baker Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Estero has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 19.
Estero suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They were dealt a 74-40 loss at the hands of Lely. Estero was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 54-23.
Estero's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Amiya Lewis, who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds, and Jaydn Hayes who scored 17 points along with two steals. That was a full 45% of Estero's points, marking the tenth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Jordyn Vaill was another key contributor, scoring five points along with six rebounds.
Estero struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Lely racked up 15 assists.
Meanwhile, Ida Baker strolled past Mariner with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 57-38. The win was just what Ida Baker needed coming off of a 68-28 defeat in their prior matchup.
Estero's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Ida Baker, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.
Estero came up short against Ida Baker in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 53-41. Thankfully for Estero, Nicole Bono (who scored 22 points along with six rebounds and five steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
