Beekmantown is a perfect 9-0 against Moriah since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Eagles will face off against the Vikings at 4:30 p.m.
The home team had won the previous five meetings between Beekmantown and Saranac, and Saranac kept the tradition alive. The Eagles fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 4-3 on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Moriah). They blew past Northern Adirondack 21-2 on Wednesday. With that victory, the Vikings brought their scoring average up to 7.1 runs per game.
Joe Pelkey was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs and three RBI. Moriah is undefeated when Pelkey posts two or more runs, but 2-6 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacob Mascarenas, who went 4-for-6 with three runs and four RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Billy Orr, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Moriah always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The win made it two in a row for Moriah and bumps their season record up to 5-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Beekmantown, they dropped their record down to 6-5 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Beekmantown came out on top in a nail-biter against Moriah in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
