The Lakewood Tigers are taking a road trip to square off against the Doherty Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Lakewood is headed out to face Doherty after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. The Tigers were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Mountain Range on Monday.
Ayden Muniz spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Lakewood let Ezekiel Maddux and Cael Huffman run wild. Maddux went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Huffman went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Kasten Steinke was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Doherty had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Everything went their way against Lewis-Palmer on Tuesday as they made off with a 12-1 win.
Derek Graham made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Crew Miller was excellent, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Avery Popovich, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Lakewood skirted past Doherty 5-4 when the teams last played back in March of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
