Basketball Recap: Maximiliano Cota-Cordova Key Part of Team Effort in Lions Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against The Vanguard School, Colorado Springs Christian was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They took down the Banning Lewis Academy Stallions 67-49. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Lions' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 179th, while the Stallions are ranked 44th).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Colorado Springs Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Maximiliano Cota-Cordova, who went 11-for-14 en route to 22 points and six boards. Cota-Cordova's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Jace Velasquez, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Colorado Springs Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Banning Lewis Academy only six assists.

Banning Lewis Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Canon Meyer, who posted 11 points and five boards. Trey Oden was another key player, going 5-for-12 on his way to 12 points.

Colorado Springs Christian has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.8 points over those games. Banning Lewis Academy's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-4.

Coming up, Colorado Springs Christian will be playing at home against Lamar at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lamar is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.4 points per game this season. As for Banning Lewis Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Ellicott at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Banning Lewis Academy is facing Ellicott at the right time seeing as Ellicott is stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
