The Manteo Redskins's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 11th straight defeat. They were dealt a 108-67 defeat at the hands of Northeastern. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (59), Manteo still had to take the loss.
When it comes to explaining why Manteo lost, one person who can't be blamed is Landon Sawyer. Despite the final result, he scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sawyer has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Taylor Granitzki, who scored 20 points.
Even though they lost, Manteo were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Sayvion Saunders was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 30 points and nine rebounds for Northeastern. Tyell Saunders was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with five steals.
Manteo's loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Northeastern, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-7.
Manteo will head out on the road to take on Hertford County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Manteo has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Northeastern, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Deep Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Northeastern knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matches -- so hopefully Deep Creek likes a good challenge.
