2A-1 Region II District 5 recap November 5, 2013
Whitesboro extended the longest winning streak in 2A-1 Region II District 5 this week by beating Callisburg, 48-14. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
Whitesboro took down the Wildcats 48-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Boyd's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Clay Barnett threw for 168 and 1 touchdown and Fino Cardona had 43 yards receiving. On the ground Cardona chipped in 243 yards. Dalton Stidham helped Boyd's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 38 yards.
Cardona was a force in the backfield as the Yellowjackets bested Paradise.
Cardona was a passing and rushing force as Boyd bested the Panthers. Cardona's favorite target this week was Cardona, who caught 4 passes for 43 yards.
Cardona was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 243 yards on 21 carries as brandon hopkins' team topped Paradise. Qualynn Wells also contributed to the rushing game with 32 yards on the ground.
Thanks to the talents of Barnett and Cardona, the Yellowjackets have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Barnett is tops in the league in passing with 1,014 yards, while Cardona has rushed for 1,525 yards this season. Eddie Gill's team's Cody Ford leads the league in receiving yards with 297 on 13 catches.
Next week's game between Boyd and the Bearcats will feature a good passing match up as Barnett will test his arm against Ford's defensive ability.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when the Yellowjackets and Whitesboro face off next week.
The Bearcats are in first place, while Boyd is in fourth place.
Whitesboro made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,577 from 1,780. The improvement was the result of a 48-14 victory over Callisburg last week.
