Ida Baker and North Fort Myers are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2021, but likely not for long. The Ida Baker Bulldogs will be playing at home against the North Fort Myers Red Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Ida Baker has three straight victories, North Fort Myers has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Ida Baker is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 23-1 margin over Dunbar on Thursday. With that win, the Bulldogs brought their scoring average up to 7.9 runs per game.
Hunter Krawczuk made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits.
In other batting news, Robbie Hensley was incredible, scoring five runs while going 3-for-4. He also put up three RBI, which were his first of the season. Abdiel Ortiz was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Ida Baker kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, North Fort Myers came up short against Ida Baker on Tuesday and fell 8-5.
North Fort Myers saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caedon Conn, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Another was Alejandro Velez Rodriguez, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Ida Baker's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for North Fort Myers, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Ida Baker has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like North Fort Myers struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Ida Baker beat North Fort Myers 8-5 in their previous meeting on Tuesday. Will Ida Baker repeat their success, or does North Fort Myers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
