Emmaus has gone 8-2 against Whitehall recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Hornets will head out on the road to face off against the Zephyrs at 4:00 p.m. The last three games Emmaus has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Emmaus will bounce into Monday's contest after beating Hazleton Area, who they had gone 0-5 against in their five prior meetings. The Hornets sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Cougars on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hornets have posted since April 22, 2024.
Emmaus got a great performance from Ryan Hummell as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.1 innings pitched. Hummell has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tanner Karwacki, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Whitehall's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Pocono Mountain East by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Zephyrs have suffered against the Cardinals since April 24, 2015.
Whitehall also got a good showing from Matt Hansen, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.
Whitehall's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Emmaus, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Emmaus has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Whitehall struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Emmaus' way against Whitehall when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Emmaus made off with a 12-4 win. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Zephyrs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
