Lake Brantley is 8-2 against Oviedo since February of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Lake Brantley Patriots will challenge the Oviedo Lions at 6:00 p.m. Lake Brantley is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
Lake Brantley came up short against Spruce Creek on Thursday, falling 9-1. The match marked the Patriots' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Maurice Brown made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. He also put up an RBI, which washis first of the season.
Meanwhile, Oviedo hadn't done well against Lake Brantley recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Oviedo came out on top in a nail-biter against Lake Brantley, sneaking past 4-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lions.
Christian Lynch was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Lynch was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Henry Alarcon tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
Lynch wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Chase Negron, who went 2-for-6 with one triple, one run, and one double. The dominant performance also gave Negron a new career-high in hits (two).
Lake Brantley now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Oviedo, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lake Brantley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Oviedo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lake Brantley couldn't quite finish off Oviedo in their previous meeting on Tuesday and fell 4-2. Can Lake Brantley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
