The Steamboat Springs Sailors had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 38-36 win over Aspen. The score was all tied up 16-16 at the break, but Steamboat Springs was the better team in the second half.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Steamboat Springs to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jeffrey Sturges, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. Cole Campbell was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Aspen lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tommy Franceschi. Despite the final result, he scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Jack Berro, who scored nine points.
Steamboat Springs is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 10-9 record this season. As for Aspen, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-4.
Steamboat Springs will head out on the road to take on Basalt at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Basalt is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.6 points per game this season. As for Aspen, they will be playing at home against Delta at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Delta focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Thursday.
