Central California AA recap Oct. 16, 2012
Big Valley Christian was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to third in Central California AA. The Lions beat Millennium 39-0 earlier in the week.
Brookside Christian moved up to 538 from 642 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Knights were able to make the jump by besting Sierra Ridge/Rite of Passage 42-0.
Austin Caldron put up the best numbers through the air as Brookside Christian beat the Rams. He finished with 15 completions for 205 yards and three touchdowns. Caldron's favorite target this week was Edrico Oliver Jr., who caught one pass for 44 yards.
Estevon Herrera was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 25 carries, he ran for 155 yards as Stone Ridge Christian bested the Falcons. Kyle Singer also contributed to the rushing game with 34 yards on the ground.
Zuniga was the best wideout in Central California AA this week as Larry Shimel's team defeated Millennium. Zuniga racked up four receptions for 52 yards. Noah Miedema helped Big Valley Christian's passing attack out by catching two balls for 37 yards.
Jorden Gentry made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Lions beat Jayson Dias' team. The 6-foot-0 senior grabbed three sacks.
Latef Grim's team's Caldron and Javier Rodriguez have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Caldron has thrown for 1841 yards this season, while Rodriguez, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 35 catches for 727 yards. Ben Huckaby from Elliot Christian leads the league in rushing with 990 yards.
The Knights' Caldron is within 159 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against Big Valley Christian.
Huckaby of the the Eagles is only 10 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Brookside Christian takes on the Lions. At the moment, the Knights are in second, while Big Valley Christian is in third.
