The McAllen Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a 53-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of McAllen Memorial. McAllen was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as McAllen Memorial apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
McAllen's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Dariana Luna, who scored six points along with 15 rebounds and three steals, and Lola Mallard who scored 21 points along with six rebounds. Mallard continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Julia Auguste was another key contributor, scoring two points.
Even though they lost, McAllen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McAllen Memorial only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
McAllen Memorial got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Eva Villarreal out in front who scored 14 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Madison Borjas, who scored 17 points along with three steals.
McAllen's loss dropped their record down to 16-15. As for McAllen Memorial, they pushed their record up to 19-11 with that win, which was their eighth straight on the road.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. McAllen will take on Pioneer at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for McAllen Memorial, they will be playing at home against Sharyland at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Sharyland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 33 on Tuesday.
