Apple Valley is 1-9 against Sultana since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Sun Devils will be playing at home against the Sultans at 3:15 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Sultana will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Apple Valley extended their winning streak to four on Thursday. Everything went the Sun Devils' way against Burroughs as they made off with a 17-5 victory.
Peyton Gaytan and Samantha Dollar did most of the damage at the plate: Gaytan went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Dollar scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. What's more, Dollar posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Khloe Beserra, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Apple Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Sultana made easy work of Hesperia on Thursday and carried off a 13-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Sultans.
Sultana got a massive performance out of Isabel Avalos, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. Camilla Casillas was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Apple Valley pushed their record up to 10-4-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Sultana, their victory bumped their record up to 13-7.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Apple Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .457. However, it's not like Sultana struggles in that department as they've averaged .451. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Apple Valley might still be hurting after the 21-2 loss they got from Sultana in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Sun Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
